Red-ruby. Pungent aromas of plum, earth, truffle, minerals and tea. Concentrated and sweet, with a distinctly higher-pitched quality than the Costa Russi; lively acids give the flavors more definition, but the firm tannins are a bit youthfully spiky ... Stephen Tanzer. A Nebbiolo wine from Piedmont in Italy. 2005 Gaja, Angelo Sori Tildin 750ml
The purity of fruit in this young Nebbiolo is impressive, with a cedar, fresh mushroom and forest undertone. Full-bodied, with masses of fruit as well as toasty oak and milk chocolate. This is a wine that gives you lots at the finish. Best after 2014... Wine Spectator. A Nebbiolo wine from Piedmont in Italy. 2005 Gaja, Angelo Sori Tildin 750ml
Best elements of the Nebbiolos - tastes of ripe strawberries, hints of vanilla and aromas of eucalyptus and roses.
With its delicate aromatic nose of flowers spices minerals and menthol the 2001 Sori Tildin is less overtly lush than Costa Russi offering much delineation in its elegant macerated cherry fruit and tar flavors with greater length fine tannins and exceptional overall balance. It is always the most nuanced and classic of the Gaja single-vineyard wines. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2023. Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.
Wine Enthusiast ReviewStarts off earthy but then turns to glorious, freshly-cut flowers with hints of crushed berries. Full-bodied, with fine tannins and a long, caressing finish. Very refined.
Chocolate, coffee, smoke, licorice, and tobacco characteristics are found in the complex, deep purple-colored 1998 Sori Tildin. Surprisingly seductive for such a young wine, it exhibits abundant aromatic fireworks, fabulous fruit concentration, a layered opulence, more intensity, glycerin, and depth than the Costa Russi, and a spectacularly long finish. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2025.
Multidimensional nose of black licorice, berry and fresh flowers. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long, fresh and fruity finish. Best after 2005.
The 2008 Sori Tildin is impressive. I confess I wasn't quite prepared for the assault of fruit and tannins here. Sori Tildin is so often a graceful, elegant wine, but that is not the case in 2008. That's not to say elegance is missing, but this is a big, big wine with tons of intensity and richness, all woven together beautifully. It's tough to find a comparison with a previous vintage, as this is a singular Tildin. The flavors are familiar if a touch on the dark side, but the structure is closer than that of Sori San Lorenzo. Flowers, tar, leather and licorice wrap around the palate. This is a fabulous showing and a great wine in the making. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2033.
