Gaja Nebbiolo Langhe DOC Sorì Tildìn 1998

Winemaker's Notes:

95 points Robert Parker: Chocolate, coffee, smoke, licorice, and tobacco characteristics are found in the complex, deep purple-colored 1998 Sori Tildin. Surprisingly seductive for such a young wine, it exhibits abundant aromatic fireworks, fabulous fruit concentration, a layered opulence, more intensity, glycerin, and depth than the Costa Russi, and a spectacularly long finish. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2025.

The initial wines were Barbarescos (in the Barbaresco and Treiso districts), then Barolo (in Serralunga d’Alba and La Morra), and through the years the wines have branched out into other styles and vineyard locations, with expansion into Tuscany in the mid 1990s. These began as expressions of Brunello di Montalcino. In 1996, they launched Ca’Marcanda, a Gaja Super Tuscan made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Syrah. This highly successful venture in the Bolgheri of Maremma was intended with the Piedmontese understanding of the different terroirs and how they affect specific grapes, celebrating the best expressions of their environment. In addition to outstanding, world renown wines, Gaja also produces some top notch grappas.  Read less

Bright deep ruby. Precise, vibrant, deeply spicy aromas of blackberry, bitter chocolate and violet, lifted by a minty nuance. A wine of explosive sweetness of fruit and great depth; large-scaled but quite suave and light on its feet. Finishes with co... Stephen Tanzer's IWC. A Nebbiolo wine from Piedmont in Italy. 1998 Gaja, Angelo Sori Tildin 750ml

Multidimensional nose of black licorice, berry and fresh flowers. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long, fresh and fruity finish. Best after 2005.
