Gaja Magari Ca' Marcanda Bolgheri DOC 2015

External Review by WineExpress.com:

From Angelo Gaja's Bolgheri estate, Ca' Marcanda, Magari means "if only it were true!", an expression used often in Italian to express desire, hope, and a vision of a bright future. The 2015 Magari is marked by a change in blend. Over 20 years of learning on this property have brought many discoveries, an exciting one being the profound excellence of Cabernet Franc. This late-ripening variety expresses fresh notes and has more moderate alcohol. As the vines have aged and reached further maturity, it has become apparent that Cabernet Franc can really shine in a starring role, hence the blend change. 60% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot – 100% Estate, the wine ages in oak for a period of 12 months and then undergoes several months of bottle aging before it is released. The Wine Advocate scored this 95 points saying "The 2015 Bolgheri Rosso Magari is a dark, rich and exuberant wine that so faithfully reflects that unique Gaja signature. There's nothing not to love here. The wine drinks beautifully and smoothly, caressing all the senses with sensual silkiness. The 2015 vintage delivers plump and extra supple fruit that further underlines the house style at Ca' Marcanda. Dark berries and spice intermingle with seamless intensity. The wine offers firm grip and long-lasting power on the finish. This is Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot."

Vintage: 2013 03/01/2016

From Angelo Gaja's Bolgheri estate, Ca' Marcanda, Bolgheri DOC, Magari is a blend of 50% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Cabernet Franc , all form estate vineyards. The varietals are vinted separately and the wine ages in French oak for a period of 12 months. 2013 was another outstanding vintage and this wine received high praise including from the Wine Advocate who scored it 94 points saying "This is the second year that this wine is a DOC (In 2011, Magari was still an IGT Toscana). The 2013 Bolgheri Rosso Magari is a gorgeous wine that shows that signature touch that only Angelo Gaja can deliver. The overall effect is thick, delicious and enduring. The blend is Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc so you get those upfront aromas of cherry compote with firm tannins at the back. The 2013 vintage shows superior harmony and complexity."
