Good full ruby-red. Roasted plum, blueberry and flowers on the superripe nose. Very smooth, thick and concentrated, but given shape by ripe acids. Really thick with extract and powerfully spicy in the middle palate. Finishes very long, with slow-mounting fruit and chewy tannins.

- Good full ruby-red. Roasted plum, blueberry and flowers on the superripe nose. Very smooth, thick and concentrated, but given shape by ripe acids. Really thick with extract and powerfully spicy in the middle palate. Finishes very long, with slow-mounting fruit and chewy tannins. This has deepened considerably since I tasted it two years ago.

- Dark ruby in color. Clearly the most approachable of the wines, the Costa Russi is a luscious and intense wine showing generous flavors of ripe dark cherries, toasted oak, roasted espresso beans, cassis, tar, licorice, mint, and truffles.

- Drinking wonderfully at the moment, but will improve further with age. Aromas of berry, mint, roses and violets follow through to a medium-to full-bodied palate, with round, velvety tannins and a ripe fruit aftertaste. Drink now through 2010.
