Gabbiano Chianti Classico 2015

Editorial Review by Snooth Editorial:

From all angles this is classic Chianti Classico. The floral cherry with soft earth on the nose opens for a textured palate of fresh cherry, raspberry fruit and a pleasant earth, fresh spice and an earthen finish. Not daring in any way but pleasant, approachable and a safe bet.

Partially sourced from the oldest and best estate vines of the Castello vineyard, located at approximately 750 feet above sea level. Due to its high altitude and soil combinations of limestone, marly sandstone and clay, this historic vineyard produces intense and concentrated fruit. The rest of the fruit was sourced from select hillside vineyards in the Chianti Classico region of Tuscany, with average altitudes of 500-700 feet and similar soil compositions as the Castello vineyard. The juice was macerated on the skins in stainless-steel tanks for 10-15 days at controlled temperatures of about 77-82°F. To extract color and flavor and enhance texture, the wine was left on the lees for 12-13 days. The wine aged 6 months in 70% in French oak and 30% in Slovenian oak. Wine Enthusiast Magazine selected the 2011 as a Top 100 Best Buys for 2014 scoring it 90 points. It scored 93 in the Critics Challenge Wine Competition where they said "Lovely Chianti; very dry; well-balanced; long finish; should age well."
