G Ferrer Caner Cuve 91/2 548353 G Ferrer Carneros Cuvee 98 1998
The 1998 Carneros Cuvée is a sleek wine with bright fruit elements and a fine, persistent structure. Kiwi, mineral and red currant aromas flood the bouquet, with a subtle fresh nut element in the background. The palate is filled with fresh Asian pear, citrus and white chocolate flavors. An array of miniscule bubbles carries the bright flavors and generous texture to a clean, long lasting finish. A full-bodied blend of 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay. Made from our finest vineyards and aged on the yeast for over seven years. This extended aging period results in notes of nut and toast, and a smooth creamy finish.
This is an awesome sparkling wine and it reaffirms that I have expensive taste. This is a time where I did a tasting, not knowing the price, and decided I liked the most expensive one so the power of persuasion did not play into my decision making. I found this wine to have great acidity, great texture and most of all ... just plain yummy. Had a bit of lemon zest and doughy taste. I want to get a bottle of this to see how it ages.
Scents of hazelnuts and herbs. Flavor is floral (but not sweet), salty finish.
Recommended by Andrea Immer Robinson at Telluride Wine Festival 2011. California long-aged on yeast, paired with truffle infused caviar and smoked salmon
