Red and black cherries are intermingled with flowers in the aromatics of the 1999 Fleurie Domaine des Quatre Vents. Well-focused, firm, and powerful, its medium to full-bodied character is packed with red and black fruit flavors. Opulent, gorgeously ripened, and balanced, it also possesses a long, supple finish. Drink this wine over the next 5 years.

Proud of its romantic name, the Fleurie has a very floral aroma. It is iris, rose and violet all at once. On tasting it one bites into a peach and chews a black currant at the same time.

Black cherry, chocolate, spice and earth notes, with nice density and a firm, yet ripe feel. Quite lively, almost racy acidity on the finish will let this flesh out nicely short-term. Drink now through 2002.

Fleurie represents the threshold "Cru de Beaujolais," right at the border between those which are better when drunk young and those which are enhanced by aging. With its fine structure, it ages with a lot of elegance. The wine is fruity and floral when young, with aromas of red fruit, iris and violet in subtle harmony. As is ages, it develops hints of spice, adding to its flavor and complexity.

The color is ruby, almost purple blue, with very floral aromas, iris, violet and black currant. The tannins are very soft and fine.

Floral scents of violets add high notes to this wineandrsquo;s umami flavors of fresh candegrave;pes. The texture is round in the middle and tighter in the end, where it feels clean and gentle. Serve this with roast quail stuffed with wild mushrooms.
