What to Expect

California has long struggled with Pinot Noir. Finding the right vineyards for this most fickle of grape, one that enjoys a cool growing season yet needs warmth close to harvest to fully ripen, has proven a challenge in such a sunny state. Cooler areas eventually became identified; the Santa Rita Hills, Russian River Valley and Mendocino's Anderson valley are all prime spots for Pinot Noir in California. Unlike the lighter colored and sometimes delicate Pinots of Burgundy, California produces many rich, deep Pinots full of slightly chewy dark berry and cherry fruits with hints of cola, Asian spices and forest floor frequently adding complexity.

Winemakers Notes

Aromas of caramelized bing cherries waft from the glass. bright cherry
and cranberry fruit melds with flavors of cola nut, earth and smoky spice.
The bright acidity and fine tannins lift the flavors through to the long
elegant finish. A cellar worthy wine that will evolve and gain complexity
with 5-10 years of bottle age and beyond.

Reviews

Rating: 92/100 - As reviewed by Wine & Spirits Magazine on 06/09 Made by David Rossi from the Hein Family and Hayley vineyards, this is a floral pinot with gracious fruit intensity. It feels fat in the middle, as some red-fruited wines from the Pommard clone tend to. The oceanic acidity gives the strawberry flavor an edge. Delicious with a grilled salmon steak.

A must try pinot! Fruit filled nose, lite on the palate. Aboundance of fresh strawberries and raspberries with peppered cherry jam finish.
