Frog's Leap Zinfandel Napa Valley 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

"A second straight year of lower than average yields has provided for a wonderfully nuanced, deeply fragrant Zinfandel. A wine that expresses its intensity through complex layers instead of simple, brute power. It is almost impossible to describe the zesty “fruit bowl” of aromatics: Raspberry? Blackberry? Mulberry? Perhaps razzmatazz berry describes it best. The addition of Petite sirah underscores the ripe fruit flavors and adds a spicy touch of cardamom and cinnamon. Plush without ever being heavy or harsh, the 2009 Zinfandel is a delicious wine that sets the mind thinking of a myriad of potential food pairings." --from the winery website

Dark purple. Wonderful nose with wild berries and currants. Slight acidity mellows into a dry mouth feel with tastes of currant, berries, and a touch of black pepper. Nice backing if tannins and oak. Lovely and consistent.

Frog's Leap is one Napa Valley's most celebrated boutique wineries. Founded in 1981 they've been producing outstanding wines for decades. Now all of their estate vineyards are farmed organically and they work with other Napa Valley grower with organic vineyards. Zinfandel has always been one of their most popular wines and this 2009 tells you why. It's bold Zin with deep flavors of blackberry cedar, pepper and spice box. 77% Zinfandel blended with 22% Petite Sirah and 1% Carignan and it was aged for 12 months in American oak barrels. Hop on it!

Winemaker Notes - Lush layers of wild raspberry and mulberry underscored with a touch of cinnamon and white pepper. The tannins are polished and the texture is plush.
