What a refreshing treat! As is par for the course, this is a perfect example of classic Chianti with its meanderings of black cherry, tea leaf, licorice and a hint of spice & leather. The mouth regales with hints of plum and forest floor and the uplifting acidity provides an invitation to drink more. Very inky, and the lingering finish wraps up the tannins, acidity and fruit into a neat and tidy package. A Chianti with character to spare.

($23) Fairly dark ruby. Subdued but pure nose hints at spicy plum, ink, coffee and sweet underbrush. A saline quality and a peppery nuance add to this wine's overall flavor interest. Boasts a rather seamless texture and suave tannins and finishes moderately long if not yet particularly complex. Needs a little bottle aging to show all it's got.

Its suite of fragrances exhibits considerable complexity, opening to dark fruit such as plum and blackcurrant, then enriched by a pungent spiciness that betrays cinnamon and clove.
