Frescobaldi Chianti Rufina Montesodi 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Advocate Review Rated 92 The estates single-vineyard 2004 Chianti Refina Vigneto Montesodi (100% Sangiovese) saw 18 months aging in new barriques. It presents expressive aromatics followed by layers of black fruits, violets, licorice, sweet spices and menthol that flow from the glass with notable concentration as well as weight on the palate. A note of freshness gives the wine a beautiful sense of lift on the finish. Several years of cellaring will help integrate the toasted oak notes that are present today. This sleek interpretation of Chianti is a terrific effort from Frescobaldi. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019. Wine Tasting Notes Strikingly intense and brilliant purple. The nose shows rich, concentrated fruit, with abundant blackcurrant and blueberry preceding clean-edged impressions of plum preserves, while black pepper and cinnamon nuances mark a very lengthy finale. It develops quite full-bodied on the palate, warm and generous, with a well-built, velvety suite of tannins. The progression through the finish is complex and lingering, complemented throughout by a judicious acidity that perfectly balances the alcohol.

Cool and crisp on the nose with mineral, moss, pressed flower and an earthy/ slightly medicinal beet root tone all meshed with lovely slightly jammy strawberry fruits with just a hint of clove spice. Lots of ripe red fruits in the mouth with lovely balance and crisp, slightly austere tannins that add a brisk slightly astringent apple peel note up front. there is ample flesh here to keep things rather well rounded in the mouth and the red berry fruits fill out on the palate and lead to an herb tinged finish of moderate length. Solid and appealing Chianti 2010-2018 92pts

Great wine! Starts with a mild sweetness evolves to bring out a spicey undertone and then back to a berry like sweetness. The finish is medium dry.
