Frei Brothers Sauvignon Blanc 2013
Our Sauvignon Blanc grapes were whole-cluster pressed to maximize delicate flavors and preserve the naturally firm acidity. The juice was then settled before fermentation to create a softer, more elegant mouthfeel. Sur lie aging gave this wine layers of complexity that extend through the mid-palate and culminate in a refreshing finish. A small portion of the wine was aged in American oak to add layers of complexity after fermentation.
Editorial Reviews for Frei Brothers Sauvignon Blanc
A little candied on the nose, and ripe with peachy aromas layered over a base of softly floral framed citrus fruits and a hint of honeydew with a gentle suggestion of vanilla adding detail. Fairly large scaled in the mouth, and on the softer side of the spectrum, this does not lack for acid but does have a bit of a creamy feel in the mouth. The flavors show both complexity and subtlety with a vein of vanilla well woven through the fabric of citrus fruit, melon and very fine herbal notes with a hint of green fennel seed emerging on the backend. Soft and gentle on the finish, though with good persistence and a finale that shows some peach pit and a hint of almost salty minerality. This is not my style of Sauvignon Blanc but in its style it is quite good. 89pts
Has a very sharp tropical fruit nose with a touch of grass, semi medium body with bright acidity that calms after airing. Notes of melon, kiwi, and lemongrass. Great summertime white!
Four and a half glasses
not bad, a bit sweet
Good balance of sweetness, bitterness and acidity
Aromas or lemon curd and flowers along with cat pee, almost a slight brussels sprout tinge and more citrus. It's crisp and juicy with tart acid. Flavors of lemon and lime with some flinty minerality.
Eyes: Pale straw Mouth feel: Light bodied, dry, mint, guava and grapefruit notes. Nose: Grapefruit and Guava I enjoyed this. Great apperitivo, great with fish, salads, meatless pasta dishes
Three and a half glasses
External Reviews for Frei Brothers Sauvignon Blanc
The cool climate enables Frei Brothers to produce a Sauvignon Blanc that exhibits a crisp, mineral-like mouth feel. With citrus and cut grass aromas and a long yet clean finish.
The 2009 Sauvignon Blanc reveals lots of fresh, lively, melony fruit, light to medium body, and hints of citrus oil and background spice (which I suspect comes from the tiny amount of aging in wood). Drink it over the next year.
