Frei Brothers Reserve Chardonnay Sonoma County Russian River Valley 2008
Unimpressive nose of apple and straw. Nice balance of apple, pear, citrus and hint of oak followed by a crisp finish. A very nice wine with smoked salmon, crackers & cheese, or just by itself.
I really like this wine for the balance. It is nice fruit of apple and tropical notes typical of the climate. It demonstrates a restrained use of oak but you can tell it is there and the malo doesn't leave it feeling flabby....in fact there is some nice acidity. This is a good example of when medium isn't bad. With Chardonnay, for me, more isn't always better.
