Frei Brothers Chardonnay 2013
Our Russian River Valley Chardonnay is a soft and complex reflection of one of Sonoma's most renowned cool-climate region. This wine displays flavors of green apple, orange zest, and apple pie, complemented by notes of butter and toast. The rich, nutty flavors in this chardonnay lead to a silky finish and plush mouthfeel.
Editorial Reviews for Frei Brothers Chardonnay
A bit subdued on the nose with a nice core of pineapple and lime zest fruit overlaid with spicy, sweet, slightly marshmallowy oak. A bit soft on entry, then this turns fairly firm in the mouth with a nice spine of acid lending freshness to apple and almost peachy fruit that is wrapped in caramel and creme brulee accents. there’s a hint of creaminess that emerges on the backend along with a mineral note and some grilled pineapple flavors. That creamy note takes over on the finish, along with a touch of tannins, giving this power and drive on the moderately long finish. A bit big and obvious but well done in the style. Hopefully the wood integrates a bit over the coming year. 87pts

On first taste, this wine was pleasant but fairly unremarkable. We drank it first with a salad course (basic green salad with vinaigrette), and it was not a great pairing. We drank a second glass with a rich roast chicken and it was fantastic - it unearthed the richer flavors claimed on the bottle. With the salad alone, only the green apple notes seemed strong. Price: David bought it on sale, around $12
Interesting portrayal of this famous variety. Typical Chardonnay nose with hints of oak and vanilla. Strikingly sweet taste with hints of tropical fruit and crispiness similar to that of a pinot grio. Very easy drinking wine the reminds me of sitting outside in the sun in summertime.
Good with bite
I really like this wine for the balance. It is nice fruit of apple and tropical notes typical of the climate. It demonstrates a restrained use of oak but you can tell it is there and the malo doesn't leave it feeling flabby....in fact there is some nice acidity. This is a good example of when medium isn't bad. With Chardonnay, for me, more isn't always better.
Unimpressive nose of apple and straw. Nice balance of apple, pear, citrus and hint of oak followed by a crisp finish. A very nice wine with smoked salmon, crackers & cheese, or just by itself.

The 2013 Chardonnay Reserve went through 100% malolactic and was aged in about 20% new French and American oak, the rest in stainless steel with some wood staves. The wine doesn’t show a lot of oak, just some nice orange blossom, pear and caramelized citrus in an elegant, crisp, fresh, light to medium-bodied style. It is best drunk over the next 1–2 years.
Lots of spice, creamy oak and vanilla notes join vibrant pear, melon, honeysuckle and floral scents, ending smooth and graceful. Drink now. 135,000 cases made.
Fresh, clean apple and pear flavors have a pithy edge, joined by a touch of lemon peel. Good length. Drink now.

The 2012 Chardonnay (nearly 14% alcohol) is barrel-fermented and aged in a combination of wood barrels, tanks and stainless steel barrels with wood staves. It exhibits lots of pineapple and mango fruit along with medium body, crisp acidity and good freshness as well as purity. This delicious Chardonnay should drink well for 3–4 years.
This Chardonnay expresses toasty aromas and complex varietal characters of lemon and citrus fruit, which harmonize beautifully in its soft, mellow finish.
