Winemakers Notes
The 2007 growing season was long and dry, yielding small berries with tremendous flavor and concentration. This wine has more depth and power than the 2006 Freestone Pinot Noir, along with the typical structure and elegance of the Sonoma Coast terroir. The wine exudes layers of sandalwood, anise, cassis and dried tea leaves. Its density lingers on the palate and offers flavors of plum, bing cherries, black tea and tobacco, while the finish provides the spicy and earthy characteristics that are typical of Freestone wines.
Vintage Notes
After an unusually dry winter, the onset of bud break appeared early. The overall growing season was moderate and relatively even, with a few heat spikes in early summer at berry set, which assisted the vines towards veraison of smaller berries. Harvest got off to an early start when warmer weather arrived in mid-August, and Chardonnay suddenly caught up. Pinot Noir harvest began on September 6th and then unseasonably cool weather followed in mid-September which slowed the season tremendously, creating a second harvest of sorts. The growing season was already extended due to early bud break in the spring, and with the cooler weather, hang time continued for Pinot Noir and some Chardonnay.

Reviews for 2007 Vintage
I loved this wine. It had good balance of red fruit and acidity. Didn't go too well with the braised short ribs, but they weren't that good. Flavors seemed to dissipate after a while in the glass, but that could have been the short ribs. Have some left over for tonight, so I'll see how it holds up. It was definitely worth $30.
I love this. The initial oakiness goes away an hour after opening. What remains is a nice kick of alchol with a cherry core. Some nice Burgundian-esque terroir and some black tea on the finish. This is a well-made, lovely wine.
An impressive blend from three of Freestone's excellent cool-climate estate vineyards: Pasquale, Quarter Moon, Ferguson. Penetrating Pinot nose with dark cherry, pomegranate, charcoal, spice. Rich yet crisp and clean in the mouth, with an attractive fruity tartness. Treatment included aging in 60% new oak, but there are no intrusive oaky aromas or flavors. Appealingly "low" alcohol level and good balance.
Stephen Tanzer - 92 points
"Good full red. Pungent herbs and spices lift blackberry and violet aromas. Juicy, ripe and spicy, with noteworthy energy to the red berry flavors. Nicely combines sweetness and grip, finishing long and bright, with suave tannins."
Region: Sonoma Coast, California
Grape(s): Pinot Noir
Napa Valley icon Joseph Phelps founded Freestone Vineyards in order to produce the best Pinot Noir he possibly could. In the cool Sonoma Coast appellation he found the ideal conditions for long slow grape development and rich intense flavors. Three estate vineyards are planted and all of the grapes for this 2007 are from the estate. 2007 also marked the completion of their all-new gravity-flow winery, so this lush '07 benefits from the delicate, minimal handling that this facility provides. A Cellar Selection and 91 point score were received from Wine Enthusiast Magazine and Steve Tanzer did them one better with a 92 point score saying "Good full red. Pungent herbs and spices lift blackberry and violet aromas. Juicy, ripe and spicy, with noteworthy energy to the red berry flavors. Nicely combines sweetness and grip, finishing long and bright, with suave tannins." Grab it now while it's ON SALE!!!
A Pinot Noir wine from California in USA. 2007 Freestone Pinot Noir 750ml
This Pinot Noir is a selection of the best wines produced during the harvest. We selected the groups with the best balance of tannin, flavor concentration, aroma and acidity. The resulting blend offers hints of sandalwood, wild blackberry and balsamic reduction, dried tea leaves, and a melange of Indian spices. This wine is serious, yet restrained, and has a backbone of natural acidity, tannin and minerality to provide the structure necessary for aging.
