Freemark Abbey 2005
Wine Advocate Review Rated 89 The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (a blend from various sites) is a soft, sexy combination of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 9% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. A big, sweet nose of Asian spices, smoky oak, and plenty of black and red fruits, are followed by a lush, round, generously constituted wine with medium to full body, decent acidity, and velvety tannins. Enjoy it over the next 8-10 years. Wine Tasting Notes Dark ruby in color, the aromas of dark fruit like black cherry, currant, plum and blackberry exude with hints of rose petals and dried cranberries. The pleasant integration of oak and fruit describe a bouquet of aromatic cedar, clove, cinnamon and dark chocolate. Great mouth feel and balance; black cherry, blackberry and currant flavors dominate. Cedar, spice, chocolate and espresso, plus layers of dark fruit flavors, blend into a long clean finish.
It began over a century ago as a vision shared by a handful of pioneers; those with an intimate knowledge of grapes and a deep respect for the land. This vision took root, was nurtured by skilled hands and ultimately resulted in one of the first premium wineries in the Napa Valley. Today, the wine of Freemark Abbey stands as a testament to what the rich earth of the Napa Valley is capable of creating when working in perfect harmony with nature.
