Notes on the Freeman Chardonnay Ryo-Fu Russian River Valley 2006 : CONNOISSEUR'S GUIDE REVIEW: 89 POINTS Candied apple and lemon-like notes are boosted into richness by a distinct buttery tone in the nose of this agreeable wine. Round yet well-balanced on the palate with forward, juicy red apple and creamy oak flavors, the wine shows its good filling from front to back and holds on throughout a long and convincing finish. A bit of bottle age will be helpful. The aromas are a brisk mix of lemon custard, white peach, pineapple, minerals and hints of pear and lime. It is bright and focused on the palate, with a slightly unctous texture and lots of developing white peach, vanilla cream, preserved lemon flavors, and some very attractive tropical hints. The finish is long and refreshing, despite all the richness. Built for seafood or grilled dishes, it has enough flavor to be a great summer sipper as well. Expect another eighteen months of improvement. A two vineyard blend: 58% Keefer Ranch and 42% Heintz Ranch. 452 cases produced.WINEMAKER NOTES: The 2006 Ryo-fu Chardonnay starts with a subtle nose of lemon zest, crme caramel and toasted coconut.
