Franz Haas Muskateller Alto Adige Südtirol Moscato Rosa 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

The Haas family has been growing grapes in Montagna in the province of Bolzano, Alto Adige for generations. It is only with Franz, however, the current proprietor, that they have begun to produce and bottle quality wines. Franz studied at Geisenheim in Germany before working as a broker of Italian wines into the German market. After several years, he took over the running of the family business. Franz Haas goes to tremendous lengths to grow good grapes, and then strives to preserve the flavours of the fruit during winemaking. As a result the wines that he produces are infused with great character, and show a rare purity and balance on the palate. This sweet wine has a fairly deep cherry pink colour with violet nuances when young. In youth, it has intense perfumes of roses and cloves which change into faded roses and red berry fruits with age. The wine is very complex and smooth on the palate. Moscato Rosa is best drunk as an aperitif or an after dinner wine and will improve with age.

We have been producing estate wines since 1880, the year in which the present-day winery was established. A family-run estate, it was handed down through the generations to the first-born son Franz Haas. Through the years and the constant commitment of its owners and employees, this wine making estate has evolved into today's innovative winery. We vinify grapes from 50 hectares of vineyards, of which 28 hectares are estate-grown or rented, while the balance comes from vine growers with plots in particularly vocated microareas. Read less
