Frankland Estate Red Bordeaux Blend Frankland River Olmo's Reward 2008
Deep and dense dark plum with purple highlights. Complex, fragrant aromas of cassis, ripe berries and dark stone fruit with earthy undertones this savoury complexity is nicely intertwined with some fresh and complex oak integration. Complex, richly concentrated, beautifully textured allowing fruit characters of dark berries, plum and lifted floral notes come to the fore. A tightly woven palate with fine grained tannins add to the savoury earthy notes. The palate is generous and persistent. A very refined, beautifully balanced and effortlessly elegant wine with the structure and fruit intensity to richly reward further cellaring.
When I first tasted this parcel about 3 wks ago, we were pairing it with steak...We almost thought we ruined our taste with the smell of the steak, but after taking this wine outside, we realized, the wine had beautiful blackened grilled steak across the majority of the palate. subtle light vanilla, smoke, and small nuances of leather and earth in the background. By the 2nd glass, the wine had opened a little, lost some of the steak, and matured to a currant, cherry pit, and slight annis, but very little jam and maintained that dark background. This wine maintained a dark and broody taste to the last drop. It may have been the most unique wine I have had, and I can not say enough about its great flavor. Truly one of my top 10 wines. The wine appeared almost blackened red and cloudy , with a perfect orange-ish oxidation ring.
