Almond, white pepper and citrus aromas start things off. In the mouth, it's soft and delicate in feel, narrow but not simple or lean, with sweet fruit and a resin overlay.

The 2005 Chardonnay ldquo;Isolation Ridgerdquo; was barrel-fermented in 50% new French oak and aged sur-lie. The nose expresses toasty butterscotch, pear, and tropical aromas in an admirably restrained manner. This leads to a mouth-filling wine with a viscous texture, good depth, and excellent balance. Drink it over the next 5ndash;6 years.

Green-gold. Leesy nose offers an exotic bouquet of pit fruits, fig, floral honey, smoked meat and toasted nuts. Lush and broad, with dried peach, pear and melon flavors brightened by racy acidity. Takes on a mineral quality on the finish, which displays outstanding thrust and persistence. This is very Old World in style.

Readers looking for a distinctive Chardonnay that smells of lemon juice, orange blossom, and a hint of sealing wax should check out the 2004 Chardonnay Isolation Ridge. Some oak is utilized, but it is completely concealed by the wine's minerality, precision, power, and length. It should be drinkable for 1-3 years.
