Frank Family Vineyards Zinfandel Calistoga 2007
Our 2007 Napa Valley Zinfandel has a scarlet color with a dark purple hue. The aromas are vibrant, opening with juicy black cherries, raspberry, candied ginger and cinnamon sticks. Further depth evolves as aromas of blackberry pie, spice cake, white peppercorns and grilled figs emerge. The palate is abundant and layered; up front it is loaded with ripe fruit, chocolate and roasted nuts, followed by a chewy richness where dried fruit and sweet Asian spiced short ribs are uncovered. The structure is outstanding with complex tannins that provide exceptional weight and a long lingering finish.
RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.
One of my favorite producers of all time. I would pay $50 a bottle for this as it blows away most Napa cabs. Rich, smooth and velvety with great sweet cream zinfandel flavors. Great raspberry brandy flavor yet very refined. I don't know how they do it or why Ridge is more popular, but hot damn, this is definitely a desert island type wine that I would not be upset drinking every day for the rest of my life.
Nose opens to faint floral and plum notes interwoven, with hints of moss, pine sawdust, oak and cedar in the background. A swell of cooked raspberry soon emerges, underpinned by cream cheese, prune and a tiny waft of smoke. Notes of nutmeg, bell pepper, caramel and leather intertwine with fruits and spice as the medley evolves over 3 hours. On the palate, a lovely melange of plum, prune, blueberry, cherry and grapefruit swirl in a pleasant mix of sour acidity and velvety tannins, producing a glazed mouthfeel. At three hours, new tastes of vanilla, cotton candy and creamy butter make for a smoother entry and exit. This wine reaches a higher, more complex level at three and four hours.

This is zesty and loaded with cracked pepper, smoky wild berry and pepper aromas, with rich, zesty boysenberry and roasted sage flavors that linger on the finish. Drink now through 2012. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.
This wine's succulent blueberry and bright black cherry flavors turn savory as they meld into the tannin. Its firm structure and zinny-floral character make it a clean rather than heavy zin, suited to several years of age.
Frank Family has always done a good job with Zinfandel, but their '06 is the best yet. It's rich and delicious, packed with savory black cherry, raspberry, mocha, cinnamon spice and vanilla flavors that are wrapped into wonderfully soft tannins. Really defines the so-called "claret" style of Zin.
