Food Pairings for Frank Family Vineyards Napa Valley Zinfandel
Editorial Reviews for Frank Family Vineyards Napa Valley Zinfandel
Nice nose starts of with some tarry, matchstick and milk chocolate notes that are joined by wild berry, boysenberry fruit tones and deep notes of spicy and pepper. A touch sweet up front then slick and polished with plenty of very fresh yet slightly exotic berry notes, boysenberry and even a touch of asphalt, chocolate shavings and dried ginger. Nice feel with good tannins and balanced acids. A very polished, complete wine with a long, fruity finish and beautiful youthful tannins. A bit rambunctious, rough and tumble but well done as such if a bit hot on the finish. 91pts
We didn't expect such a full tasting zinfandel from FF. We love their smooth tasting cabernet, but this really surprised us. Someone said this wine evolves from the first hint of sweet berries to drier finish. We drank this with a roast beef dish and it was perfect! I would decant this wine to bring out its fullness.

the epitome of zinfandel. absolutely perfect.
One of the greatest, small, family owned wineries. I tried this wine in the Frank Family tasting room on my honeymoon. Bristol, the vineyard yellow lab, was an awesome dog!
This one has been under my staircase for over 2 years. Generally, the under the staircase storage is pretty good for a few years. We'll see. The cork was very good when I pulled it out. So, I am optimistic. Very dark color to this one--like a not-quite-black black plum. Unfortunately, alcohol dominates the nose. So, now I am less optimistic. Front of the tongue has very nice berry fruit and a bit of mint. Some sweetness--not clear if it is from the fruit or from the alcohol that I smelled. Some tannin and some acid. It is a smooth wine, but I think that the alcohol smell threw off my taster. Alcohol definitely pops up on the finish. Interesting that there are 17 other ratings and reviews posted here and not one (that would be zero) of them mentioned anything about alcohol. I wonder if my storage is at fault. We'll see how it goes with tonight's flank steak dinner. $28.99 at Total Wines in 2010.

Cedar, leather & dark berry aromas lead to chocolate, jam and clove flavors and very smooth structure; no harsh edges.

Opaque purple. A complex, heady bouquet evokes candied dark berries, vanilla and mocha, with a spicy topnote. Lush and expansive, offering gently sweet, oak-spiced cassis and blueberry flavors that gain energy in the glass. In a plush, polished style, finishing with smooth tannins and lingering spiciness.
There no disputing that this wine is ripe, but its balance and its stunning appointment of well-defined fruit are keen reminders enough that ripe wine, when balanced, can be delicious. This one, in fact, goes beyond being tasty and delivers complexin... Connoisseurs Guide. A Zinfandel wine from California in USA. 2009 Frank Family Zinfandel 750ml
The 2009 Zinfandel is bright scarlet in color and possesses aromas of raspberries, plums, leather, brown sugar and white pepper. Medium bodied on the palate, flavors of sweet plum and caramel are balanced with silky tannins, earthiness and a kick of spice and acidity.

A very zinny Zin, packed with the varietyandrsquo;s briary blackberry, anise, dark chocolate, bacon and crushed black-pepper flavors. Itandrsquo;s the wineryandrsquo;s best Zinfandel since the 2006 vintage.
This is zesty and loaded with cracked pepper, smoky wild berry and pepper aromas, with rich, zesty boysenberry and roasted sage flavors that linger on the finish. Drink now through 2012. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.
