Frank Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Calistoga 2009
91 points California Grapevine: Medium-dark ruby with purplish tinges; attractive, intense, spicy, plummy, cedary, cassis and sweet black cherry fruit aroma with hints of graphite, leather, and vanilla; full body; big, rich, textured, cedary, extracted, currant and red berry fruit flavors with good depth and a slightly rough mouthfeel; medium-full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Needs a few more years of bottle aging. Very highly recommended. 14.5% alcohol; blended with 3% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot; released Winter 2012. (Mar 2012)
RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.
Editorial Reviews for Frank Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Calistoga
At first dark and earthy in the nose, this quickly shows attractive black currant and weedy aromas that gain a modest sheen of oak spice along with hints of candied blackberry and wild berry fruits. Fruity on entry with a rather natural, unfettered feel, this reveals a fine core of bright and juicy black currant fruit supported by fine tannins that allow the almost delicate fruit to shine clear as a bell. With air this does turn a touch soft, and there is a hint of pruny-ness on the moderately long finish, but the texture and purity of this wine is very attractive. 91pts
Big red currant on the nose. Also, aromas of straw and spicy herb notes. Flavors of dark red fruit, grilled herbs and spice. Pretty floral notes as well. Rich and red. nice wine. Good balance as well. 90 pts. 12/15/12
Plum, currant and black fruit nose. Hints of mint/eucalyptus. On the palate, it's got a supple texture with plum, cherry and currant. Ends on a cedar and slight mineral edge. Nice. 10/8/11
Tasted this at the winery. Bought a few bottles. Wasn't sure if we actually liked or if we were caught up in the sales pitch. This wine is a good drinker. Not overly tanneny. Won't lay too long but a few years would benefit the wine. Definately worth a try.

Pretty light for a cabernet. Strong tannins and spicy on the tongue. Smelled chemical-y. Hints of plum and smokiness. I enjoyed the flavor as I drank more, but tannins and texture were a bit too intense.

Juicy red berries, crushed flowers, cloves and a hint of French oak all come together nicely in the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon. An outstanding follow-up to the 2008 vintage, with generous aromas of dark chocolate, black cherry and spice which are layered with dusty cedar and loam. The palate is vibrant and concentrated; bursting with ripe black cherries, plum, currant and blackberry.
This supple-textured red shows ripe plum, cherry and currant notes that are open-knit and easy-drinking. Complex, if on a modest scale, ending with an elegant spice, cedar and light mineral edge. Drink now through 2018.
The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon is terrific. There is plenty of varietal character and sheer personality in this beautifully delineated Cabernet Sauvignon. Dark red fruit, grilled herbs, tobacco and spices flow through gracefully in this medium-bodied, harmonious offering, which gains intensity with air. Anticipated maturity: 2012andndash;2020.
