What to Expect

California's Napa Valley has been a source of world-class Cabernet Sauvignon for well over a century. Its warm climate and varied terrain allows for many styles of wine. One thread that runs through almost all the Cabernet based wines from Napa is their lush, ripe full-bodied feel and rich flavors of currant and berry. Wines from the valley floor, particularly around Rutherford, are famed for a dusty quality and those coming from the hillsides surrounding the valley, Mt. Veeder, Diamond Mountain and Howell Mountain for example, tend to be a little leaner with more obvious structural elements.

Editorial Reviews

The reticent nose starts off quite dusty and really tight though develops a jammy hard candy blackberry edge with nuanced ripe green pepper, smoldering herbs, cigar ash and moist dark earth notes rounding out the nose. The sweet attack is backed up by dense, rich fruit yet is not forced feeling. Across the mid-palate there is plenty of structure, and while the wine is fairly tight today there is a lot to like from the melange of fresh cassis fruit and dried wild blackberry tones to the wine’s spice, mint, vanilla and green herbal top notes. Lovely mouthfeel and finish with its cocoa dusted, meaty read more...

Tasted this wine at the Snooth Panel tasting:

First wine of the second flight. My favourite wine of this flight. Nice balanced wine with good tannin structure and some spice. Good fruit, mouth feel and consistency.

The 2005 Frank Family Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon exposes its depth immediately with its dense dark purple color. The aromas are bountiful, brimming with juicy brambleberries and ripe black cherries that are laced with notes of smoke and roasted espresso and followed by hints of tobacco, earth and cedar. The palate is opulent and intense, bursting with ripe blackberries and currants, with just a touch of sage. The rich fruit is balanced with complex tannins providing a plush, yet firm mouthfeel that is round and supple with lasting depth.

I am a french Canadian and I love good wine.
A friend from the state brought a botlle of Cabarnet Sauvignon 2005 as a gift.
I usually drink French Grand Cru wine.
I was very impress.
It has a the nice aroma and texture.
This is an excellent wine, to bad we don't have it here in Quebec.

My pick of the blind tasting - a fantastic wine, very soft, supple, elegant and smooth. Clearly a blend (with some merlot?). Very very nice.

Sweet fruit, with some green bell pepper tones which balances it out. Overall I think this was the top, or 2nd to top wine between the 8 of us for the tasting
