What to Expect

Malbec's origins as a blending grape and the core of the sometimes rustic wines of Cahors are quickly becoming forgotten as the grape becomes solidly associated with Argentina. A heat-loving variety of grape, it has always struggled to ripen in France. While still capable of producing a full-bodied rich wine, the tannins in these were formidable. In warmer climates the tannins are able to ripen fully, yielding rich, velvety wines packed with black spice notes and dark berry fruit.

Powerful, dense nose of dark plum, smoke and a hint of blackstrap, with flavors to match. This is a robust, deeply colored and intense, tarry red that is made in a no-holds-barred style. Finish is filled with Bourbon and spice. Best from 2006 through 2010. -Wine Spectator Smart Buy The Ch. Croix du Mayne is a vineyard of 20 hectares situated on a gravelly soil on a second terrace of the Lot Valley, exposed south, south west. Fruity wine with spicy tannins and elegant woody notes. Grape varieties: Malbec: 85%, Merlot: 15%.
