Franciscan Oakville Estate Chardonnay 2011

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Fruity yet firm on the nose with lovely pear, apple, and apricot aromas framed with perfumed oak and topped with hints of tobacco and pollen. Vivid and bright on entry with tons of acidity supporting fresh apple, pineapple and under-ripe apricot flavors. There's a hint of creaminess adding some softness on the mid-palate, though the acidity remains rather sharp adding a rich lemon curd note to the back end, which recedes rather quickly on the finish revealing a pithy, dried citrus peel note over hints of almonds and steely minerality. Super value. 89pts Acidity: Medium High Perceived Sweetness: Low Oak: Medium Low Spicy Flavors: Medium Savory Flavors: Low Fruity Flavors: Medium High Intensity of Flavor: Medium High Weight in Mouth: Medium

Franciscan has its roots deeply embedded in the soil of Napa Valley. Founded over three decades ago, wine industry revolutionaries Raymond Duncan and Justin Meyer shaped the winery’s beginnings. In 1985, renowned vintner Agustin Huneeus took over the reins, leading the winery to greatness through innovation and a commitment to small-lot winemaking. Today, Director of Winemaking Janet Myers is preserving the winery’s legacy while leading it into the future. “We inherited a craftsman’s ethic here: work with nature, work in small lots, innovate. Our uniqueness depends on the details,” she says. All of Franciscan’s winemakers have left their individual marks, but all have remained true to Franciscan’s signature: bold wines with the rare combination of rich, vibrant flavors yet fine, supple texture. Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

We purchased this wine in Evansville, In for $12.89. Very good for the price, as a 08 still good color and no after taste. Nice notes and no to fruity.
