Franciscan Merlot Mer 2005
Wine Tasting Notes Rich ruby red intensity with crimson accents. Incredibly rich, with intense blackberry and black cherry, accented by vanilla-toasted oak with hints of cassis. Supple and ripe blackberry, black cherry and hints of toasted oak and vanilla fill the mouth with a full mid-palate and a long, round finish
A smooth, inexpensive wine.
Although Franciscan is consistently pleasing, this Merlot merely satisfies with a brief but robust burst upon the palate followed by an afterglow as pithy as the sinking feeling you get from the first glance at your bed partner the night after a frat party.
not the wine to gift to a wine connoisseur but a lovely wine to keep in the cabinet for everyday use. lots of berry notes, exceedingly dry and very smooth. someone who is new to wines will probably find it to be top-notch.

Harvested and crafted with care in Napa Valley's Rutherford area, this is as good an argument for drinking Merlot as any we've encountered. Like a classic Bordeaux, this is perfectly ageworthy, but right now it's showing lovely ripe blackberry and cherry flavors, great balance, and a clean finish.
