Francis Ford Coppola Presents Rosso 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

Our Shiraz is aged in both French and American oak barrels, achieving more complexity of flavor; French oak imparts a vanilla character, American oak helps sustain the inherent spice qualities.

Francis Ford Coppola’s love for wine didn’t just sprout up overnight. His grandfather, Agostino Coppola, had a passion for wine back in the 1920s, when he used to make wine in the basement of his New York apartment. They weren’t sophisticated wines: they were just everyday wines that anyone could enjoy. Francis and Eleanor Coppola, Francis’ wife, attempted to continue this passion when they purchased their own vineyard in Rutherford, California in 1975 using the proceeds from The Godfather. This plot was a part of the historic Inglenook Winery, and it included the former home of Gustave Niebaum, member of the Culinary Institute of America’s Vintner’s Hall of Fame. After tireless effort by the whole family, the winery produced its first vintage in 1977 under the Niebaum-Coppola label. After many years of success, the family purchased Inglenook Winery in its entirety in 1995. In 2006, the winery was renamed to Rubicon Estate Winery in honor of the estate’s flagship wine. The Coppola family couldn’t stop there - in March 2006, they purchased the former Chateau Souverain winery in Geyserville, California, transforming it into the Francis Ford Coppola Winery. In their first four years, their family of wines exploded from 12 to 45 wines. Corey Beck was made the director of wine-making and the general manager of the winery, and he currently oversees seven wine brands. There are currently 9 lines of wine, each with a different personality and varietal composition. The Sofia line, for example, was created as a gift from Francis to his daughter, and it exudes charm, style, and romance. Read less

Cocoa on the nose with some black fruits. A little spicy with a hint of chocolate covered cherries on the palate. Just enough tannin to let you know that it's there. Not a ton of "grip" with a decent but not long finish. For the price it isn't bad at all. Good weekday table wine to have with some pasta.

Strawberries on the nose with bright red fruit upon tasting. Great everyday wine at a great price point.

Pretty good wine for the price. Picked up some Raspberry, Blackberry, spice, oak, vanilla. Medium body wine with a little bit of acidity. Finish is alcohol, spice, oak and the blackberry. I'm a newb, so take my interpretation for what it is worth. I would buy this wine if I needed enough for a large group. Most would love it and it wouldn't cost a lot. Had some pasta with it and it was a delicious combo. Will definitely purchase this again so I can have a couple of bottles sitting around for those just because moments.

Great middle of the week table wine. Short glass makes the dinner not so foo foo for a mans man.

Rich and full in body (much like Coppola himself), this California Syrah is loaded with dark fruit and spice. Try it with pepper steak or grilled kabobs.

A favorite of many customers, the Coppola Rosso is an intriguing blend of Zinfandel, Cabernet and Syrah. Inky purple-red hue, with intense black fruit and spice. Very likable, with full flavor and a velvety texture; even if you think you donrsquo;t like reds, you should give this one a try.

An Italianate red from Francis Ford Coppola. Made from a delicious blend of fruity red grapes, this wine complements a broad range of simple dishes. Drink it with anything that calls for an honest, hearty red.

The clour is of deep garnet with rich aromas of sweet fruit and vanilla. On the palate jammy strawberry, with hints of plum, boysenberry, spice, and vanilla tones.

A fruit driven blend of Zinfandel, Cabernet, Sangiovese and Syrah featuring plum and raspberry flavors framed in smoky oak.
