Francis Ford Coppola Claret 2009
Over the past decade Red Rock has gained an enviable reputation for producing superb ultra premium wines. They are handcrafted on the estate from vines that creep up the side of a dormant volcano west of Geelong. The mineral-rich soil, low rainfall and cool climate result in a unique terroir which, when coupled with sensitive winemaking, yields distinctly individual wines with power and finesse.

While not terribly aromatic, this does show a nice balance of oak-derived spice notes, slightly herbal and earth-framed black raspberry and cassis notes, and an intriguing floral element. Nicely scaled, this has a rich edge but is still medium-bodied with lively acidity and soft, velvety tannins. There’s a nice core of fleshy blackberry fruit along with a little meaty edge that drives to a slightly drying, modest finish. This is a really finely textured wine, with a nice balance of flavor that doesn’t hit you over the head and ends with some refreshing structure. 87pts
Very rich and flavorful with nice fruit and tannins. This is one of my go-to wines that I always have a few bottles in the cellar. Very consistently excellent from vintage to vintage. Great with grilled beef. Over the last few years the price on this has dropped from around $20 to under $13 at some of the big retailers, making it a really good bargain.

This Claret is always elegant, but this year it's a true show stopper; lush with a beautiful tapestryof smooth tannins, intense flavor, and seductive aromas.
This bright Cabernet reveals deep fruit flavors of blackberry and blueberry. Coppolarsquo;s Claret is a rich, full-bodied Cabernet with enticing overtones of spice and oak. This wine ends in a delightful long finish. Claret makes for a delicious complement to any red meat dish.

This is young Cabernet, dark purple in color, with the aroma dominated by the smoke and vanilla of fine oak. It's as rich as blackberry pie, juicy and fat, yet nicely dry. Balanced, with fine tannins, this is a nice glass of red wine.
Francis Ford Coppola calls this wine his "prize offering." It's a classic Bordeaux blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot, 5% Malbec, 3% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc. The grapes are sourced from Napa, Sonoma, El Dorado and the Coppola Estate. The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 16 months. From the excellent 2008 vintage, it shows rich fruit and a balanced structure, but the real beauty of this wine is the affordable price. For under $20 this Coppola Diamond Collection Claret is a true gem.
A Cabernet with a small amount of other Bordeaux varietals, it marries intense plum and blackberry flavors with anise and hints of spice and black pepper. A wine with both power and finesse; a true claret indeed!
