What to Expect

Nebbiolo is a fickle grape famed as much for its pale appearance as for its tannic character and produces some of the most perfumed and richly flavored wines. Though generally only medium-bodied, the wines possess rose and anise scented aromatics and deep flavors of cherry, orange peel and subtle green herb tones.

This opens with an assertively tarry nose yet there are interesting grace notes of truffle and rust. With time aromatic root tones emerge then a burst of expressiveness follows with lilacs, anise fronds, prune, and dried citron peel all pouring forth from the glass. The balance is quite precise here supporting a fine, sweet core of ripe fruit that has an earthy, meaty quality to it. There is a touch of obvious alcohol on the back but the juicy acidity does drive the finish. 91pts
