The name of this estate refers to one of the battles of the Hundred Years War that was fought here in 1452. The first vines were planted in the 16th century and in the 1855 classification it became a fifth growth.In 1932 it was bought by brothers Marcel and Francois Borie who split it in 1942. Marcel got the larger share plus the Chateau while Francois's share became known as Chateau Haut-Batailley.Marcel's daughter married into the Casteja family so the estate eventually became a part of the Borie-Manoux empire and is run today by Philippe Casteja.There are 55 hectares under vine.There is a grand wine and in 2016 a second wine 'Lions de Batailley was introduced.
