Foxglove Zinfandel 2015

Member Review by winehound69:

OK, Keep looking for another zin. Never really got the berry or richness as indicated by the wine maker.

Perhaps the other reviewer got a bad bottle. The one I have is quite good. Ripe black cherry nose, big fruit on the palate and a smooth, slightly peppery finish. This is a classic zin and went quite well with BBQ. For the price I think it's pretty darn good. Didn't blow me away but I liked it enough that I might just pick up another (if I could fit it in my cellar). 3.5 glass rating.

I really wanted to love this wine since the price is so remarkably low and I've always greatly admired the Foxglove Chardonnays for their excellence and price/performance ratio. However, this Zinfandel is just not made in a style I enjoy. Very earthy nose of prunes, sweet berries, and chocolate. Sweet-feeling and (to my taste) overly heavy and unstructured in the mouth, very like the late-picked Zins I used to struggle with from Ridge. The texture and sweetness also make it, for me, a troublesome food wine. I purchased a case of this wine before tasting it based on super reviews from Parker and others - oops! A preference for this sweeter, heavier style is a matter of taste, and I'm sure many others will have a better feeling about the wine than I do.

My family enjoyed a bottle of this at Thanksgiving dinner and it was a crowd-pleaser. I would definitely go back for more if I was looking to buy Zinfandel.

The 2012 Zinfandel is gorgeous. Sweet red berries, leather, mint, tobacco and cedar are some of the notes that emerge from the glass in a floral, unoaked Zinfandel with distinct Pinot-inflected overtones. This is another superb value from Foxglove.

Moving to the reds, the 2012 Zinfandel Foxglove comes from Paso Robles and offers plenty of classic Zin bramble, briar and sweet kirsch to go with a medium-bodied, forward and easy-drinking feel. It’s another wine deserving a multiple bottle purchase.

Robert Parker gave this wine 89 points saying it is "delicious, a classic Zinfandel". Well balanced with briery fruit character and clean acidity. Tasting Notes - This Zinfandel is a dense, rich, evenly balanced wine with lush raspberry fruit. Ripe blackberry heady aromas compliment a thick, luscious, chewy palate to create a wine that is balanced and round.

The 2009 Zinfandel includes 6% Petite Sirah. A delicious, classic Zinfandel, it offers up peppery, briery, wild berry fruit intermixed with damp earth and spice characteristics. Medium to full-bodied, delicious, and soft with enough acidity for cleanliness and delineation, it should be drunk over the next 2–3 years.

Wild berries with spice are intertwined with soft tannins in this medium bodied wine. There is a touch of Petite Sirah giving the wine a little more oomph. BBQ anything or moldy cheese (blue or gorgonzola) is the perfect match.
