Foxen-08 Pinot "Bein Nacido" 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2008 Pinot Noir Vineyard Block 8 has a dark ruby/purple-tinged color and more black cherry, smoke, and earth in the aromatics. It is slightly broader and more savory, in a fuller-bodied, richer style than the Block N, but only marginally so. This is another big, deep wine, and in the portfolio of Foxen Pinots, the second biggest and richest wine of the 2008s. Impressively endowed, it should age nicely for 5-7 years. Bravo!

Since that time, their dedication has remained the same—the creation of very small-production, vineyard-designated wines using a "minimalist" approach to winemaking. The winery is named in memory of William Benjamin Foxen, an English sea captain and Dick's great-great grandfather, who came to Santa Barbara in the early 1800's. In 1837, this Santa Barbara County pioneer purchased the Rancho Tinaquaic, a Mexican Land Grant that originally totaled nearly 9000 acres and comprised most of what is now known as Foxen Canyon. Captain Foxen adopted the distinctive "anchor" as his ranch cattle brand, which has become a trademark of the winery. It is very fitting that FOXEN has made its home on the 2000-acre Rancho Tinaquaic, which remains in family hands. With the completion of FOXEN’s new solar-powered winery and tasting room in August 2009, the historic and beloved “tasting shack was renamed “foxen 7200”, where Bill and Dick now feature their Bordeaux and Cal-Ital-style wines, under a newly designed label. FOXEN pinots, chardonnays and Rhône-style wines will be showcased in the new tasting room at 7600 Foxen Canyon Road. Read less

Intense and vibrant, rich and layered, with pleasing aromatics of black cherry, plum and wild berry. Full-bodied, tight and focused, woven together on the palate and hanging onto a long, tantalizing finish. Drink now through 2016.-J.L. 670 cases mad... Wine Spectator.
