Situated on the slopes overlooking one of the deepest parts of Seneca Lake is Fox Run -- a winery with fifty acres of vineyards producing a remarkable range of fine wines. Under the dynamic, forward-looking leadership of Scott Osborn, Fox Run has become one of the truly great producers in the Finger Lakes region just south of Rochester, New York. Native grape varieties put the Finger Lakes on the map a century and half ago, and French-American hybrids, bred for cold resistance, still have an important niche in the region. But Osborn was convinced that non-hybrid European Vinifera grapes could yield wine excellent enough to put the Finger Lakes in the ranks of the world’s top fine wine producers. For more than a century Fox Run was a dairy farm. The first grapes were not planted until 1985, and the barn, erected shortly after the Civil War, was restored and converted to a winery and tasting room with a spectacular view of the lake in 1989. High-toned and citrusy, this brisk riesling has scents of lime and passionfruit. The flavors add a savory note, like freshly baked bread, finishing on lime and Meyer lemon.

This semi-dry Riesling is a classic, with a gorgeous lime cordial and petroleum nose topped off by delicate notes of white flowers. Itrsquo;s light-bodied and crisp, with good purity of fruit and a medium finish of minerals, fresia and white cherries. Try with cod in a Japanese preparation.

This lively Riesling offers aromas of citrus, apricot and honey, followed by layers of white fruit, spice and pepper. The wine has a slightly sweet fruity character but itrsquo;s balanced by acid and minerals. The fun but impressive Riesling.

Lovely peach and spricot aromas and flavors highlight this spauml;tlese-style Riesling, which offers a rich texture and a cleaning finish that balances the hint of sweetness. Drink now.

This bright, sunny wine has a scent of golden wheat and ripe apples, as well as a hint of green herb that keeps it savory. The flavors are lifted and bright, the texture firm with a talc like edge to support weisswurst and roast fingerling potatoes.

Slate and peach flavors develop in the glass. The wine is soft, not as firm and structured as Riesling can be, but well chilled, it will make a refreshing counterpoint to fish and shellfish.

Fresh, with a bracing edge to the lime, green apple and chamomile hints. Therersquo;s good cut on the finish. Drink now.
