Fox Run Vineyards Riesling Lake Dana Vineyard Finger Lakes 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

*Sweet, low-alcohol* Riesling 12 is a modern interpretation of a timeless old-world style. The fermentation was started with Epernay II yeast and was carefully managed using current new-world winemaking techniques to ensure *healthy* and steady kinetics. The result is a wine that is lush and pure. Honeyed citrus and tropical notes that are Riesling’s heritage and the racy acidity that is a Finger Lakes hallmark marry brilliantly in this classic redefined. This Riesling - an expression of place, method, and time - is delicious now, and is worthy of long-term cellaring. Winemaker's Notes from Winery Website

Situated on the slopes overlooking one of the deepest parts of Seneca Lake is Fox Run -- a winery with fifty acres of vineyards producing a remarkable range of fine wines. Under the dynamic, forward-looking leadership of Scott Osborn, Fox Run has become one of the truly great producers in the Finger Lakes region just south of Rochester, New York. Native grape varieties put the Finger Lakes on the map a century and half ago, and French-American hybrids, bred for cold resistance, still have an important niche in the region. But Osborn was convinced that non-hybrid European Vinifera grapes could yield wine excellent enough to put the Finger Lakes in the ranks of the world’s top fine wine producers. For more than a century Fox Run was a dairy farm. The first grapes were not planted until 1985, and the barn, erected shortly after the Civil War, was restored and converted to a winery and tasting room with a spectacular view of the lake in 1989.
