Fox Run Vineyards Fox Run Reserve Chardonnay 2008

External Review by Prestige Wine & Spirits:

This has the typical apple, pie crust and spice profile, but with a flinty edge, and additional floral notes as well. Pretty. Nicely done. Drink now.

Situated on the slopes overlooking one of the deepest parts of Seneca Lake is Fox Run -- a winery with fifty acres of vineyards producing a remarkable range of fine wines. Under the dynamic, forward-looking leadership of Scott Osborn, Fox Run has become one of the truly great producers in the Finger Lakes region just south of Rochester, New York. Native grape varieties put the Finger Lakes on the map a century and half ago, and French-American hybrids, bred for cold resistance, still have an important niche in the region. But Osborn was convinced that non-hybrid European Vinifera grapes could yield wine excellent enough to put the Finger Lakes in the ranks of the world’s top fine wine producers. Refreshing, with some nice crunchy apple flavors, and some ripe pear notes. Buttery and spicy notes chime in on the finish with a hint of lime. Drink now.

Some toast lays over the apple and pear flavors, which gain intensity on the spicy finish. Grows on you.

Pure flavors of baked apple and pear with just a touch of vanilla from the judicious use of oak, creating a balanced and refreshing finish.

Aromas of peach and lemon are supported by vanilla and spice notes from barrel maturation. On the palate, this wine shows rich flavors of lemon custard and baked apple.

This barrel fermented Chardonnay is made from the fruit of their oldest vines. A medium bodied wine combining toasty oakiness with intense fruit flavors.
