Fox Run Reserve Riesling Finger Lakes 2011

External Review by WineExpress.com:

The Finger Lakes wine region of New York State is now widely recognized as one of the finest in the world for growing and producing Riesling. Fox Run Vineyards has been perfecting their craft for more than two decades and its Rieslings have received international recognition. They are a three-time Gold Medal winner at the prestigious Riesling du Monde competition in Strasbourg, France; one of a select few to be a multiple award winner out of thousands. They have 19 acres of estate Riesling vineyards growing on at least five distinct soil types. Separate blocks are harvested and vinified individually, allowing each to express its own special character. This Reserve Riesling is a selection of the very best and most expressive grapes and it is only produced in outstanding years. Wine Enthusiast Magazine named it an "Editors Choice" giving it a 94 point score and saying "Extended bottle aging and impeccable fruit ripeness make this late-release Riesling an absolute showstopper. Wafting of honey, mango and grapefruit, this deeply concentrated wine saturates the palate in dense, creamy waves of extract. Shimmering lime and mineral streaks levitate the mid palate and extend endlessly on the finish. It's stunning now, but composed enough to hold well till at least 2025." Very Limited!

Situated on the slopes overlooking one of the deepest parts of Seneca Lake is Fox Run -- a winery with fifty acres of vineyards producing a remarkable range of fine wines. Under the dynamic, forward-looking leadership of Scott Osborn, Fox Run has become one of the truly great producers in the Finger Lakes region just south of Rochester, New York. Native grape varieties put the Finger Lakes on the map a century and half ago, and French-American hybrids, bred for cold resistance, still have an important niche in the region. But Osborn was convinced that non-hybrid European Vinifera grapes could yield wine excellent enough to put the Finger Lakes in the ranks of the world’s top fine wine producers. For more than a century Fox Run was a dairy farm. The first grapes were not planted until 1985, and the barn, erected shortly after the Civil War, was restored and converted to a winery and tasting room with a spectacular view of the lake in 1989.
