Fox Run Chardonnay NV

Winemaker's Notes:

Tasting Notes: A classic example of this varietal. Wonderful aromas of pears, apple and spice, with a long, soft finish. Appellation Notes: Seneca Lake is the deepest of the 11 Finger Lakes. With a maximum depth of 600 feet, this 35-mile-long body of water in the heart of New York wine country does not freeze. Instead, it acts as a heat storage unit, warming the growing region year round. This warming effect is largely responsible for the success of the area's flourishing wine industry. Vineyard Notes: Soils are from glacial deposits, friable, well drained and have an eastern aspect (slopes point to the east) . The vines are 6-15 years old. Technical Notes: Appellation: Finger Lakes RS: 0.5% Alcohol: 12% Aging: Stainless steel and oak Return to Fox Run Vineyards wine list

Situated on the slopes overlooking one of the deepest parts of Seneca Lake is Fox Run -- a winery with fifty acres of vineyards producing a remarkable range of fine wines. Under the dynamic, forward-looking leadership of Scott Osborn, Fox Run has become one of the truly great producers in the Finger Lakes region just south of Rochester, New York. Native grape varieties put the Finger Lakes on the map a century and half ago, and French-American hybrids, bred for cold resistance, still have an important niche in the region. But Osborn was convinced that non-hybrid European Vinifera grapes could yield wine excellent enough to put the Finger Lakes in the ranks of the world’s top fine wine producers. For more than a century Fox Run was a dairy farm. The first grapes were not planted until 1985, and the barn, erected shortly after the Civil War, was restored and converted to a winery and tasting room with a spectacular view of the lake in 1989. Luscious fruit and toast aromas are the beginning of this fun wine from Fox Run. On the palate, it offers good Chardonnay flavors and a round, supple mouthfeel. Itrsquo;s not terribly complex but is flavorful and has dimension.
