What to Expect

Zinfandel is considered America's own great indigenous grape, even though its origins lie on the Adriatic coast. Planted throughout California and the Pacific Northwest, Zinfandel is at its best in warm regions with cooler temperatures during harvest. The wines can range from off-dry Rosés, White Zinfandels, and light bistro styled wines, to big, rich powerful wines - even luscious wines for dessert bottling. The flavors range from plummy to raspberry, although deep blackberry fruit and brambly spice tones are most common.

Winemakers Notes

Our 2006 Sonoma Zin was kissed with a touch of Petite Sirah and aged in small French and American oak barrels for 14 months. This wine has a sexy nose with velvet vanilla oak tones, followed by rich, spicy berry fruit and a hint of cedar. Big flavors, yet refined and stylish. The James Bond of Zinfandel…he will seduce you.

Editorial Reviews

Musky and spicy with bowls of fresh berries, vanilla, cola, spice, tarry, brownie, peppercorn rare beef, complex and Spicy! Pretty well balanced with lovely wooly tannins and good acid supporting fairly transparent dark berry fruit. Not as spicy as the noise implied and gains a piercingly pure raspberry syrup note. A touch hot and that adds to a minty note with spicy wood tones and pepper on the backend. A vanilla note reappears on the finish the finish with an earthy sweet candied tone and nice refreshing red apple acids. Overall a pretty complex and nuanced rendition. 91pts

My favorite where Four vines is concerned...not as bold, but, still spicy with some smoother finish. Great buy for $20.

such a vibrant nose! reminds me of when i make vegetable stock and go a little nuts with the herbs and spices. this wine is weird like that...it reminded me of homemade pasta sauce when i smelled it. oregano, nutmeg...
so a teeny bit disappointed with the taste. it's spicy all right but the excitement stopped there for me. the fruit and tannins hit hard but didn't linger for me, which is what i like in a zin. still, it's a solid wine and should be enjoyed with food. made me hungry.

Not as bold as the Biker but a style that lots of Zin people will love. There is room for many different styles in the Zin world.

Concentrated black current nose over cigar box aromas followed by concentrated, earthy black tea fruit, black pepper & spice; hot & pithy: I really like this.
