Spicy and earthy with lots of licorice at first then more French oak tones and plenty of sweet blackberry notes with hints of feral, wet dog, shale, and ocean breeze. Brambly and gingerbread notes add complexity. Big yet very smooth with a really nice refined mouthfeel. Great balance for this weight with apple skin notes right up front followed by deep, dark spiced berry fruits. A bit weighty and murky but intense and chewy and in this style very well done. This is powerfully flavored with dark tobacco, nutty, Toblerone chocolate and dried cherry notes with some streaks of espresso candy and earth leading to a moderately long, intense finish with notes of fudge and herbs. 90pts

Aromas of vanilla, pine & dark fruit followed by loads of cedar, earth, black tea, tar. Lots of pithy wood going on here.
2006 Four Vines Zinfandel California (Horace says Lodi) – Nose: dark fruit, oaky, smokey (but not to the level of Plungerhead…definitely not as potent (much to Hector’s disappointment)), Palatte: sweet, quite sweet, fruity, like a ripe plum, can taste the oak, heavy and full, Finish: light to medium tannins, medium length Lamarr: B 86.1 (nice, but a little too sweet for me, almost like a dessert wine, perhaps a good starter wine for some because it goes down easy, but I’d like to see a little more spice, a little more pepper, don’t think it quite holds up with food, more of an after dinner dessert) Hector: B+ 89 (too fruity to be an A) Alastor: Absent (groggy from midday nap)
This is a great Zinfandel! Very rich and spicy and full of yummy berry fruit!

A big splash of Barbera, together with a little Petite Sirah and Mourvedre keep this wine rocking on your palate from its jammy start to its velvety berry/cinnamon finish. This Zinfandel lives on the edge of conventionality and crazy: Part brambly berry. Part blackstrap molasses. All in Maverick's one-of-a-kind balanced and weighty style.
