Reviews for 2006 Vintage
A fantastic Pinot Noir from a small Oregon winery. As I've recently fallen in love with Oregon Pinots I've been seeking out these smaller wineries and have been really impressed. Four Graces produces a bold Pinot with lots of earthy tones. Their soil is unique because of the volcanic layer that holds water more than other parts of that region. They had some ancient floods that shaped this region of the Willamette Valley. It's no wonder that California Pinot makers are now buying their grapes from Oregon... it's just too hot to make quality pinot in California.
Outstanding Wine. Smooth and Bright. Very drinkable all on its own, but we killed the bottle with a large plate of cheese and apple slices. This bottle was a gift from a friend, but I'm definitely interested in acquiring more of it.
First impression was that the wine was very clear, not dense in color at all. The nose was nice, fruit with some gamey hints, old world. The taste was nice, but a bit earthy for my taste. My challenge with all Oregon Pinots is determining the source of the grapes and soil type. It seems to make an enormous difference in Oregon compared to CA Pinots. Will wait a year to open another to see how it has evolved.
Steve Tanzers International Wine Cellar. by Josh Raynolds. `Light straw color. Impressively complex aromas evoke smoked meat peach skin pear anise and white flowers. Pliant pit fruit and melon flavors are clean and concentrated with a faintly bitter lime pith quality adding grip. Finishes on a strong peach note with very good breadth and length.` Score: 89.
This wine is Oregon Pinot Noir at its best. Enticing, vibrant, dark ruby-purple in color, it presents ripe pomegranate and cranberry on the palate, laced by an earthy spiciness.
