91 points. The aroma is clearly New World, however there is an obvious Old World accent to this wine. There are notes of dark cherry, a soft touch of suede, and a very nice, almost cacao powdery, earthiness. There are lots of ripe red fruit aromas, but those are also balanced with a foresty mossiness and a touch of pine. This is a rich, beautiful wine, but it is also delicate and elegantly balanced. There are flavors of ripe fruit and fruit preserves, a rich, earthiness, and a rocky minerality. It’s full of floral notes in between violets and rose petals, and there is this forest floor quality that makes it just fascinating. This is an impressive wine, both in flavor and in mouthfeel. Definitely elegant enough to impress fans of Super Tuscans, but big enough to win the hearts of California lovers, this is a wine with tons of appeal, and easily worth trying.
