Four Bears Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

Our Napa Valley Cabernet displays aromas of raspberry, cassis and cigar box. Once in your mouth, the wines raspberry fruit flavors and combination of oak and tannin nuances create a well balanced, rich, full bodied wine. Grapes from sites throughout Napa Valley were harvested at optimal maturity, then de-stemmed and gently crushed in open-top stainless steel fermenters, at warm temperatures, to fully extract color and flavor. The fermented wine was then racked in a combination of French and American oak for aging, of which 20% was new. During the aging process the wine lots were tasted throughout and blended back together just before bottling.

We founded Four Bears Winery and Sean Minor Wines in 2005 for a number of reasons. First and foremost, we wanted to make delicious, quality wines that continually exceed your expectations. We are all about family and we named our business for our four children: Nick, Elle, Jack and Charlie. Starting our own winery is both a professional and personal dream. Not long after Nicole and I were married, we discovered that our second largest monthly expense was wine. We enjoy wine every day with dinner, when friends and family come to visit, during celebrations... actually, I can’t think of time we don’t enjoy wine. After a number of years in the industry, I knew there had to be a better and more affordable way to produce great wines that didn’t have severe consequences on the pocket book. We started Four Bears Winery and began sourcing wine lots for our final blends. With the help of a family friend and colleague, Will Bucklin, our initial production featured a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Central Coast Chardonnay, and Dry Creek Sauvignon Blanc. Since then we have added the Sonoma County Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley Merlot, and a Napa Valley Carneros Pinot Noir. Just as our family and children have grown, so has our business. We decided our winery would eventually include more than one label — each with a different focus and personality — much like children. Rather than delay the process, we chose to reposition the company name to Sean Minor Wines, thereby allowing for the future growth of other proprietary labels. At this current time, we have one label — Four Bears — now available with the new Sean Minor Wines packaging. Same great wines with a new look!! Read less

Tight cherry nose, very closed. Light. Some cherry notes and the tannins are there, but really needs more time.

Best wine I have ever had in the price range. Very smooth.

I'm not fluent in the terminology of wine description but I do drink quite a lot of $12-$16 wine because that's what I can afford. For me, this cab (Sean Minor '06) ranks near the top of that price range. It has a smooth, somewhat buttery mouth feel and the tannins don't overpower while having a rich and well-developed fruit taste.
