Foundstone Chardonnay Viognier

External Review by Great Wines Direct:

Aromas of ripe stone fruit, peach and nectarine with a touch of apricot, orange blossom and flower petals . Founded by Bob & Cherie Berton in May 1996 with 75 acres, the heart of Berton Vineyards is their own personal plot in a sub-region of Eden Valley in South Australia. This idyllic property sits at 450m above sea level on gently rolling hills – except for the Chardonnay block which is anything but gentle! With the good rainfall in High Eden, the vines are in great condition these days. After the local dam was full they were able to follow on and plant European varities. The Chardonnay vines are now growing happily amongst big white rocks on ancient podsolic soils – which really makes driving trellis posts interesting, but that’s another story Grapes : 80% Chardonnay and 20% Viognier Region : Australia / Eden Valley Maker : James Ceccato and Tim Perrin Notes : The Foundstone Chardonnay Viognier is a blend of two well suited varieties. The Chardonnay offers aromas of ripe stone fruit, peach and nectarine while the Viognier contributes a touch of apricot, orange blossom and flower petals that gives an extra dimension to this blend. The palate is full bodied with rich, ripe fruit and spicy vanillan oak with just enough acidity to give the wine a long satisfying finish. Serve : Enjoy with filo pastry chicken pie or just as an aperitif. ABV : 14%
