Fougeray de Beauclair Pinot Noir Bourgogne 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

"A terrific price on a very pure and classic Bourgogne Rouge. Well rounded tannins and crisp acidity keep this fresh and fruity, but with good subtle earth notes too. Should age nicely too." DOMAINE: "In 1972, Jean-Louis Fougeray created Domaine Jean-Louis Fougeray. Over the years, the domaine grew to 25 acres with vineyards stretching from Marsannay to Savigny-les-Beaune. In 1986, Jean-Louis partnered with Bernard Clair to form Domaine Fougeray de Beauclair. This estate now owns 54 acres of vines, and bottles the only Bonnes Mares originating from the Morey-St.-Denis side of this Grand Cru vineyard. Current annual production is 10,000 cases." "Patrice Oliver has been the winemaker since 1999. This is a superstar domaine that manages to keep its prices within reason. Domaine Fougeray de Beauclair is a true family operation. Patrice Olivier makes the wine with his father in law. Laurent, Patrice's wife runs the marketing." -Pinot File VITICULTURE AND VINEYARDS: "The approach is lutte raisonee, the domaine avoids chemical sprays, vineyard pests being controlled with sexual confusion methods (pheromones) and they use only certified organic compost. They exploit a broad mix of vines including Savigny, Cote de Nuits Villages, Vosne, Chambolle, Gevrey, Fixin and Marsannay, particularly interesting are some of the following:" "The Bonnes-Mares is a famous cuvee, coming on a long-term lease from Bernard Clair. The 40 year-old vines (1.61 hectares) accounted for the totality of that portion of Bonnes-Mares in the commune of Morey St.Denis." "The Fixin Clos Marion is a 3.1621 hectare monopole of the domaine since 1994 and is a long-term lease from the old Domaine Marion. Domaine Marion had many vineyards in Fixin but eventually concentrated on the these vines because they found them the best, even building the stout and high wall which you see today. The Clos is just on your left-hand side as you approach the village from the north." "Marsannay St.Jacques sits at the top of the hill in Marsannay and takes its name from all the fossilized scallops and other sea-shells that litter this limestone grounded vineyard. The vines were planted between 1970 and 1980 and 95% of this vineyard is owned by the domaine - there is another 5% section, but this is not currently exploited by the owner." -Burgundy Report

Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

This pale Bourgogne has a small percentage of declassified Marsannay, adding richness to this rustic red. Brambly berries, cherries and earthy notes blend into a lingering finish.
