- Saturated deep ruby color, whiff of new oak to go with the explosive black raspberry fruit and almost liqueur-like flavors with lots of sweet pinot sap, buried tannins and excellent length. It is very ripe and powerful yet not over the top and remains beautifully elegant. Almost irresistible now yet it should benefit from 7 to 8 years in the cellar and drink well for a long time after that.

- The dynamic and charming husband/wife team of Laurence (née Fougeray) and Patrice Ollivier has moved the quality of this domaine consistently upward since Ollivier arrived in 1991. At the time Patrice was working under the guidance of his father-in-law, Jean-Louis Fougeray but since then, he has taken on more and more of the wine making responsibilities and in 1999, he took complete control. As domaines in Burgundy go, this domaine is a relatively recent creation formed in 1978 and is already an important one. For all intents and purposes though, it really got its start in 1986 when Bruno Clair's read more...father, Bernard, leased to M. Fougeray a large parcel (1.61 ha) of Bonnes Mares. And not just any parcel of Bonnes Mares but the entirety of that which lies within Morey St. Denis. Young Patrice is very excited by his 99s, believing they are the best wines he has ever made. The wines are richly fruited, skillfully made with fine balance and solid concentrations. They also consistently exceed the expectations for their appellations as the entire range of wines, with the obvious exception of the Bonnes Mares, is classified as villages. In particular, the Fixin Clos Marion and the range of Marsannay offerings deliver superb value for their relatively modest costs. The Chambolle-Musigny Les Véroilles is only mentioned as a footnote because the wine from this vineyard is under contract to Jadot until 2005, and thus is not discussed below. Saturated deep ruby color, whiff of new oak to go with the explosive black raspberry fruit and almost liqueur-like flavors with lots of sweet pinot sap, buried tannins and excellent length. This is not exactly classic young Bonnes-Mares in that it's exuberant and forward rather than austere and reticent but there can be no doubting the quality of the underlying material. From 2008.
