Fort Ross Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast Sea Slopes Fort Ross Vineyard 2014

Winemaker's Notes:

90 points Robert Parker: The 2014 Pinot Noir Sea Slopes gets its name from overlooking the Pacific Ocean at an elevation of 1,200 to 1,700 feet. The wine spent nine months in 10% new French oak prior to being bottled unfined and unfiltered. This wine offers loads of Chinese black tea, pomegranate, floral notes and a hint of raspberry in a medium-bodied, fresh, lively, Côte de Beaune style. Drink it over the next 5-7 years. Drink: 2016-2023. (Mar 2016)

From the vineyard you can see the breaking surf and the misty silhouettes of Bodega Head and Pt. Reyes far below. The vineyard’s high elevation above the coastal fog and its proximity to the ocean provide a gentle, sunny and temperate climate that has proved to be very favorable for the slow and even ripening of Burgundian varietals. Subtle aromas with red cherry and some good earthiness. Definitely California Pinot Noir. Has that nice acid from Sonoma Coast Pinot and light cherry flavors with smooth tannins. Kind of short finish though.

Very light, smooth - hints of cherry. Good spring wine!

WE 90 Pts - The grapes for this Pinot Noir were handpicked during the cool hours of the night. Throughout the 10 months of barrel aging, the clones and different vineyard blocks were kept separate to maintain their distinct flavor profiles and structural components as blending elements.
