- Gruner veltliner comes in two forms. By day it is a wonderful well-rounded white wine popular in the wine bars of Vienna for an everyday glass. By night it is an age-worthy masterpiece of acidity and phenolic compounds vibing and interacting over years. Both are awesome wines and both have their place. This wine is one of my favorite versions of the former. Grooner is a quaffing wine. It doesn't need food but it will go well with anything from well flavored salads to fish dishes and even some cold sausages and sauerkraut. It has a well-rounded mouth feel with good medium fruit and a hint of pepper read more...on the finish as well as swimming around in the glass. Easy drinking and fun. Especially with a screw cap indicating one to drink it now. No need to lay it down. Pack the picnic basket and go. (hide)
