The deep ruby-colored 1996 Merlot tastes like a Merlot should. Offering big, sweet, cherry, chocolate and herbaceous aromas, it is soft, ripe, and pleasant, with a chunky, straightforward chacacter, good fruit and glycerin, and a velvety finish. It should drink well for another year.

Bright and forwardly fruity, Beaujolais-like, this wine is immediately charming, not thick and formless as are so many California examples of the variety.

This is a nice, easy-drinking wine. Itrsquo;s ripe and well-made, from the berry-infused aromas to the soft, round, fruity flavors. Dry, and even sophisticated, you can serve this with fine dinners and save a few bucks.

Decent, with ripe flavors of cherries and spice, dry tannins and good acidity.
