Foppiano Petite Sirah Russian River Valley 2012

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Black fruit, spice and earth on the nose, with some violet undertones and a sweet candied red plum note. Big and a bit inky on entry with nice blue and black fruits up front over some toasty oak. Tannins are a bit spicy and stiff from the oak. Nice balance, neither overly dense nor thick, but a little youthfully chewy. Lots of blueberry fruit on the backend with a short, drying, woody finish. The finish shows a touch of heat as well but this is solid Petite. 87pts

Big and spicy on the nose with that dark, slightly earth, slightly spice core of fruit you typically get from Petite. In the mouth this is dark and palate staining with stiff, chewy tannins and nice acids giving this impressive volume. Up front this reveals more complexity than on the mid-palate with forest floor perfumes and a touch of wood spice perking things up a bit. the mid-palate is chunky and a bit mysterious before returning to violet tinged blue fruits on the backend. This is solid if a bit stoic today, but with the right foods, grilled and barbecued meats for example, this is a classic match. 89pts

Dark purple in the glass as you would expect from a PS. Very fruity nose—of dark berries. Big hit of fruit on introduction—“sweeter” than blackberry, more like blueberry. Not a blockbuster PS. Very light on both tannin and acid. More of an easy drinker. Very easily worth the $15 I spent on it.

Lots of earthy and oaky things on the nose--als0, some floral hints. Very enjoyable on the palate. Not the most full-bodied PS I've ever had. Some berry fruit. Good acid tartness. Tannin is there, but does not suck me dry. US$13.69 at Costco in Chino Hills.

Big beefy, chewy RRV Petite Sirah. Loads of dark ripe blackberries, plums, dried fig, a touch of anise and black pepper. Dark and inky in the glass, the tannins are a bit grainy but not overly so. Light to medium acidity and a medium length finish.

Slightly hot nose of deep black fruit (blackberries). Silky smooth and flavorful with black olives and nice acidity. Finishes with a bit of tar.

Highly alcoholic big whopper of a wine. 15.2% alcohol is no joke. This knocked me on my ass. Thick, tannic and pairs well with any sort of heavy meat, like Beef Burgundy.

Full nose, lots of blackberries and cherries. The finish is funky (bitter and chalky) but still a nice peppery wine.

This inky, dark wine boasts classic Petite Sirah aromas of blueberry and dark chocolate with hints of blackberry and vanilla. On the palate, flavors of black cherry and blueberry are complimented by a touch of caramel. Refined, silky tannins linger on the finish. This rich wine pairs well with braised meats, grilled lamb chops, and hearty aged cheeses. - WineryBarrels: 70% neutral, 30% new french + hungarian oak, 18 months bbl ageAlcohol: 14.9%pH: 3.51TA: 0.59g/100mlRS: 0g/l

This robust yet elegant wine is full-bodied with black cherry, blueberry, hints of toasted hazelnuts and sweet vanilla. The Pet is full-bodied and deeply colored. In the nose, the Petite offers black fruit aromas, which are well met on the palate with blackberry and blueberry flavors, as well as toasty vanilla, exotic spices, and hints of cocoa on the finish. - Winery ** SOLD OUT **
